On Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, Editor in Chief of The Catalyst Page Krensavage and Online Managing Editor Allison Wright sat in on NDB’s prosecution trial against Carlmont. This year’s case is People v. Fromholz, a murder by poisoning on a reality T.V. show. From 5:30-7:30 p.m., Krensavage and Wright took notes, got trial quotes and reported on the events of the trial, stepping into their roles as courtroom journalists.
Immediately after the trial ended, from 5:30 Thursday to 5:00 p.m Friday these courtroom journalists were writing their articles. Friday during Block E8th, they received feedback from their advisors and submitted their articles to the San Mateo County Mock Trial coordinator, who passed it on to the judges.
The two submitted their article on Friday, Jan. 30, Krensavage submitting at 4:56 p.m. and Wright submitting at 4:59 p.m.
Mock Trial coach Jonathon Tomczak and Journalism advisor Robert Rojas received the results on Feb. 11 at 8:30 p.m. This was announced to Krensavage and Wright during their Block 1 Journalism class.
“I was really shocked and also very thrilled. It was a lot of hard work that was put into it because we had to combat such a fast deadline. We didn’t have that much time to write. But I’m just really proud of myself and also of Allison because we really came together and worked together,” Krensavage remarked.
The courtroom journalist competition is separate from the mock trial portion of the competitions. The success is a significant one, as each county picks two representatives to go to the Mock Trial State Finals and this year both are from NDB.
Tomczak shared his thoughts on the victory, saying, “I’m very proud of both of our winners. They wrote incredible articles. They’re talented journalists and they have demonstrated that once again and they’re going to do it one more time at States in March.”
The success of these two journalists reflects their hard work and dedication to their craft. The NDB community looks forward to seeing these representatives do what they do best, coming up at the state finals.
