After a school year filled with hours of homework, working on assignments and participating in classes, the dedication and commitment of NDB students culminated on Wednesday, May 13. NDB held its annual Academic Award Night, an evening of celebration to honor a handful of particular Tigers’ accomplishments.
When the school year begins, most people are motivated and organized. Fresh out of the summer, they have not experienced schoolwork in three months. It is new and exciting, and they are determined to stay orderly and participate. However, as the year slowly ticks away, it becomes more difficult to stay consistent. Life gets busy, sports get in the way and things pop up. Homework piles up, tests become more frequent and students often feel overwhelmed balancing everything.
Academic Awards Night recognizes the students who were able to stay consistent, despite other commitments. This event celebrates their dedication and hard work demonstrated throughout the school year.
Senior Cecily Rambod received the Outstanding Achievement Award for AP Human Geography and Drama III as well as the Michele Micheletti Award. The award is given in memory of Micheletti, a member of NDB Class of 1996.
“I think that Academic Awards Night is important to have because it is a night that you are able to not only acknowledge students that go above and beyond, but encourage students to want to do their best, so that they will get acknowledged for their achievements,” said Rambod.
There is no doubt that Academic Awards Night is a testament to the hard work and dedication of NDB’s most talented and hardworking students. It proves that these students have demonstrated the utmost commitment, passion and drive to their work and have poured everything that they have into it.
Junior Emily Weisman received the Charisma Award for Social Justice. She shared her reaction when she learned she won the award and why she believes this event is significant.
“I was really excited and also surprised because I was not expecting to get this award,” said Weisman. “I think this event is really important because it showcases the academic skills that our school fosters for young women.”
Academic Awards Night is important not only because it recognizes students’ efforts, but also because it fills them with a sense of pride. It lets them know that their teacher noticed their hard work and appreciates it.
“… It is an amazing feeling when your name is called for an award, and it is something to be proud of for both the school and the students,” said Rambod.
NDB is an academically challenging school with a highly competitive environment where many students consistently push themselves. It is not easy for any one student to stand out among such a talented and motivated group of peers. However, this group of outstanding and dedicated Tigers were able to rise above that challenge through their perseverance, determination and commitment to their education.
