As the summer approaches and artists begin to announce new tours, festivals, and music, the pop culture world takes the task of naming the next song or album of the summer. Recently, the careers of two beloved pop stars have been growing. Both Oliva Rodrigo and Katy Perry have been on the rise. In early April, Katy Perry’s single “The One That Got Away” and album “One of the Boys “both been rising and showed up in the Billboard top 200. As for Olivia Rodrigo, on April 17, a new single, “Drop Dead,” was released, as well as the release date for her next album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl so in Love,” coming out on June 12.
In just the past few weeks, Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” has reached over 70 million streams. Rodrigo fans have been waiting since the artist’s last release in 2023 for her new music. Since her recent breakup with Louis Partridge, Rodgrio has hinted that her album will have a mix of emotions from lovesick to joyous. The single already holds those emotions and everything in between, heavily being able to relate to the majority of her fan base. As June approaches and Rodrigo and her marketing team continue to promote the new album, it is no doubt that this will be on repeat all summer.
Katy Perry originally became popular in 2008 when she released her album “One of the Boys” and since then has mostly been under the radar. But recently, mostly due to social media like Instagram and Tiktok, Perry’s music has re-emerged. For Gen-Z, most were young kids when her music was first popular, but have now realized as teens how her collection is not much different from say the relatable music of Taylor Swift and Olvia Rodgrio today. This pull of having music that one can relate to is a strong one, and a big reason for why Perry’s music has become popular once again. Her music, while relatable and occasionally sad, usually keeps a more upbeat and happy feel to it, making it perfect to listen to with friends during the summer. As social media continues to push our music there is no doubt that we will be hearing the words of Katy Perry all summer long.
Summer is the time for new music and concerts. It is no doubt that these two women, a part of the music industry with continue to rise in the summer of ‘26.
