Seniors, it is finally that time of year: dorm shopping has begun! Amazon carts are filling, Target baskets are being packed, housing applications are being submitted, and each senior must get their dorm set up how they want it.
With the Sharks having plans to go to college all around the country, each dorm will be different, and will need to have certain necessities that will make their dorm unique to them. From the comforter to the posters, dorms are a huge part of one’s college experience, and the seniors need to get the right things for their dorms. After all, they will be living there for a year, or possibly more.
The first thing seniors look for are the essentials…the necessities. While each college is different in what they allow in the students’ dorms, some seniors might shop for things like fans, if there is no air conditioning, perhaps a mini-fridge for energy drinks or coffee, a mirror, and tons of other things that make a dorm room, to put it simply, livable. It has to fit one’s vibe, and that is going to be different for everyone.
Next comes they other things; the fun posters, bulletin boards, and other stuff that individualize the dorm. Whether seniors want to bring stuff from home, like photos of friends and family, or buy new flags from their college, walls will need to be filled.
Now, clothes and closets are a big part of one’s dorm. With no uniform to rely on anymore, seniors will need a variety of clothing to wear weekly, and depending on where they are going to college, they might need to shop for some new clothes. For example, Isabella Michael is going to New York University on the East Coast, where the winters are not friendly. With Michael living in the Bay Area for many years, she will have to venture out to buy some winter clothing.
“I really don’t own any winter coats or anything like that, so that’s something I’m going to need to invest in,” said Michael. “I don’t want to take a lot of things from my home, because I want it to still feel like how it was when I come back to visit….I’m going to have to buy a lot of new stuff, since I don’t want to take a lot of stuff from home.”
Whether looking for clothes for a warm or cold climate, it is necessary to get clothes for your dorm based on where you are going and where you will live for the next 4 or more years.
With the Sharks going all around the country for college, one will have to decide how to dorm shop effectively. If one is going far away from home, out of state, for example, one might either ship their dorm supplies to their college, or buy their dorm necessities in their college town. If one is close to home, it might be easier to transfer some dorm supplies to their dorm. Whichever way the seniors decide to do it, the Sharks will certainly have to transfer some dorm essentials to their dorms, near or far.
Dorm shopping season will continue for the next couple of months for the senior Sharks. Whether they add fans, posters, or new clothes, the seniors must get what they need for their dorm so that they can live happily in it for a while.
