New year, new changes at NDB, and this year is going to look a whole lot different! Last year was full of new and surprising changes, and many additions to the NDB community. Some major changes included the new school Butterfly Grove being added, the launching of the Stem Wing, new uniforms and lots more that can be found on the NDB website. These changes have made a positive impact on students and will hopefully continue to in the near future.
More changes at NDB have come with the new school year. There are many rules that will be put into place.
Last year, an unhealthy trend came up that is still a current issue: the usage of teen vaping in school bathrooms. Vaping can be a very noticeable action, and can easily be caught by teachers. From the assumptions of NDB staffulty members, they found students to be vaping in places where it may seem easy to hide the smell in areas like the Moore Pavilion bathrooms, locker rooms and the Sculpture room bathrooms, which are places teachers and faculty rarely go to. This year, NDB will take an approach to this issue and from now moving forward, the Moore bathrooms and other hidden places will be closed during lunch as it is the time where students most commonly vape.
Another change that is coming to this upcoming school year is stricter rules on attendance. It has most recently become more of an issue with students leaving school early claiming they have “appointments” or simply just leaving school early.
The most important factor of receiving a good education is staying in school for the time given to learn. This year, teachers are taking a more strong approach to this issue. Some teachers have been discussing possibly giving out 0s on assignments for those with unexcused absences which can give students a wake up call to attend school in order to prevent getting 0s.
These changes can either make a positive or negative impact on NDB students but staff are hoping for a new positive impact this new school year. These changes are not only to help students, but to also bring more fun and excitement into the new year.
