The wonders of an .edu email are limitless and priceless, well after paying tuition. You may be wondering, what exactly is a .edu email? Well, an .edu is an email address students will receive shortly after committing to college.
What makes this email address stand out is the discounts. Large corporations including Apple, Spotify and Doordash recognize the email account as a new student adjusting to university life and want to support individuals going through this change.
Apple
The Apple store has recently created an Education website, which sells various discounted products to university students. Additionally, customers can purchase select products including Macbooks, ipads and more from the normal apple site and ask to include a .edu discount.
During select seasonal sales, Apple may offer a $100 – $150 gift card to students who make an .edu purchase.
Spotify and Hulu
Spotify pairs with Hulu to offer a discounted version of their premium subscription for college students. The process is accessible online and is listed as “Premium Student” when choosing a subscription.
This plan offers students $6.99 a month for up to four years as long as they are in a higher education program. Typically, a “Premium Individual” Spotify plan costs $12.99; however, the .edu perk saves $6.99.
Additionally, since Hulu and Spotify are paired together in a plan, the cost is already put into the “Premium Student” subscription, meaning the $6.99 pays for both platforms
Doordash
Popular meal delivery service, Doordash, offers a discount on their subscription service, “DashPass.” This program is $9.99 a month or $96 a year that offers $0 delivery fees and discounts on select businesses.
However, with a student reduced DashPass plan, young adults can expect to pay $4.99 a month or $48 a year.
There is a requirement that students must be enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program in the U.S.
The North Face
One notable clothing discount is from The North Face. All U.S students enrolled in either full or part time colleges are eligible to receive a 10% discount on a full price item every 30 days.
This means a student could buy a jacket on March 1st with a 10% discount then buy another item on April 1st and receive another 10% discount. However, it is important to note that the first promo code used will not work for the second purchase, instead re-verify your student ID to collect a new code.
The discounts listed above are not the only ones offered to university students. Paramount+, Adidas, Target and more offer promo codes and reduced subscriptions.
Next time you’re shopping for clothes, food or school supplies, look online to see if the business offers a discount, you might save some money!
