As the school year is coming to a close, students are looking beyond to the plans they have for the upcoming year. One of the most significant ways to get involved in student decision-making at NDB is to serve on the student council or, as a junior, to run for an Associated Student Body (ASB) officer position. These leadership roles play an important part in shaping school culture, planning events and representing the student body, making them both meaningful and highly competitive. Because of this, many qualified candidates go to great lengths to demonstrate their capabilities, leadership experience and dedication to NDB in hopes of earning the trust and support of the community. Throughout the election process, candidates work to share their ideas, connect with students and show why they are prepared to take on the responsibility of serving as a voice for their peers on ASB.
On Friday, May 1, votes were counted, decisions were finalized and anticipation built across campus as students waited to see who would take on these leadership roles for the upcoming year.
The six students elected as ASB officers for the 2026–27 school year are juniors Allie Dorn, Grace Enfield, Cadence Goblirsch, Sammy Kakala, Caitlyn McCabe and Emily Weisman. They will find out their individual positions on Class Day, when they will stand before the graduating ASB officer who holds the position they will receive.
Many of the newly elected officers emphasized leadership growth and collaboration as major motivations for joining ASB as well as their experience serving on student council at the class-level.
Goblirsch explained that, after spending two years on student council, running for ASB felt like the “next step,” adding that she hopes to challenge herself by sharing more ideas and helping make next year memorable.
Similarly, McCabe said she is excited to work alongside the other officers to create “a really great environment” through spirit events and community-building activities.
Kakala noted the position will help strengthen her communication and time management skills.
Both Weisman and Enfield explained that their experience with student council inspired them to run for ASB, as it helped them recognize the importance of serving their fellow students.
Weisman, however, shared that her personal goal is “to grow as a leader and be able to show others that anything’s possible if you put your mind to it.”
Enfield specifically shared her main goal is “to improve communication with everyone and make sure that everyone’s opinions and voices are heard.” She also articulated their excitement about “being able to collaborate with everyone else on the team because it’s such a great group.”
Dorn shared that she had dreamed of running since freshman year because of how “welcoming” ASB members were to students.
Her goal for the next year is “to make school more inclusive and more exciting, so that people will want to come to school every day.” She also hopes to help make Aquacades “a really fun experience for everyone.”
In addition to improving communication and school spirit, the newly elected officers hope to inspire others through their leadership.
The new ASB officers expressed gratitude and excitement after learning they had been elected, and their enthusiasm reflects the positive energy surrounding their election.
Through their goals of improving communication, increasing school spirit and creating a more inclusive environment, the officers hope to make a meaningful impact on campus during the upcoming school year. Their commitment to leadership, collaboration and service will allow them to carry on the legacy of the ASB members before them, while also bringing new ideas and perspectives to the community.
As they prepare to step into their new roles, many students are already looking forward to the energy, creativity and dedication the new board will bring to NDB next year.
