Holi, which could commonly be known as the festival of colors, is being celebrated on March 3rd and 4th, 2026. This festival is celebrating the triumph of good over evil, and the season of spring.
“I think this is one of the things that actually are staying true to our culture, and it’s something that I can experience and be part of, something that’s bigger than me,” said sophomore Kareena Bhasin.
During the two day festival of Holi many different events take place. On the first day of Holi, a bonfire is lit. People can dance and sing around the fire, while some will throw items that can include grains, wood and many more items to symbolize letting go of negativity. On the second day of Holi, color is thrown on people and around the streets, as color can represent many emotions and elements of nature.
“We just throw dyed color on people. … It is a way to get together with all of us,” said Bhasin.
Here in the Bay, there are many festivals to honor this holiday, where people can go to spend time with their community, and celebrate their culture.
“We have holy festivals around the Bay Area …, but there’s usually one that’s held in Foster City, Cupertino, Fremont, Palo Alto, and it just gets us all together,” said Bhasin.
Holi is a colorful, but also meaningful holiday to many students and community members. This festival brings a triumph of good over evil, and also welcomes in the spring season.
