When a team is struggling during a game, there is always a way to bounce back. At NDB, the spring sports have already completed most of their season. However, many student-athletes have difficult losses and continue to improve.
Varsity lacrosse player Molly Manzi has played on the team for three seasons. She plays defense and has gotten a lot of exposure to the sport through its many games and practices.
“As a team, we have worked on being able to notice our strengths and our weaknesses,” said Manzi. “Allowing us to stay consistent and improve where needed. Helping us to win.”
Members of the other spring sports reflected on what it takes to get past a difficult loss and how to come back as an individual player and as a team as a whole.
Ella McKinney, a varsity beach volleyball player, explains how she has worked with her team when in need in order to come back from a loss.
“I think coming back from losses is something that comes pretty easily to me,” said McKinney. “Being able to understand that there will always be another set and more points gives me the power to continue to push until the match is over.”
She added, “And, even after the match ends, I am always able to say that I tried my best and put 100% effort in each game… I think that’s why I keep coming back every year.”
Great teams do not let losses destroy their confidence. The ability to recover, improve, and push forward is essential for long-term success in every sport.
