Taking a Tri-School class at Notre Dame Belmont is a different experience compared to a regular class. These classes bring together students from NDB, Serra High School and, in some years, Mercy High School. While it might seem a little intimidating at first, many students find that it becomes one of the most interesting and rewarding parts of their schedule.
One of the biggest differences in a Tri-School class is the mix of students. Instead of being in a classroom with only NDB students, you are learning alongside people from other schools. At first, this can feel uncomfortable because you may not know anyone.
As Serra High School senior Trent Vandorant explains, “Yes, I think it does add to class discussions, because there’s a lot of debate between us. We’ll argue about certain ideas, and then we’ll figure it out, and we’ll come to a mutual agreement…”
However, over time, it gives students a chance to meet new people and make connections outside of their own campus. This can be especially helpful for subjects that are heavy on group projects or discussions, where hearing different perspectives can make the class more engaging.
Another unique part of Tri-school classes is the environment. Since students come from different schools, there can be different teaching styles and classroom dynamics. Some students say it feels more like a college class because of the independence and responsibility involved.
Vandorant adds, “I appreciated learning from girls because they had different approaches to studying and working on projects, which helped me see new ways to learn.”
You may have to manage your time carefully, especially if the class is scheduled at a different campus for non- NDB students.
Overall, taking a tri-school class at NDB is a unique opportunity. It may feel different at first, but it can end up being one of the most memorable experiences in high school.
