Spring sports are underway at NDB, and the beach volleyball team is ready to compete. The Tigers opened their season in late February and have already begun facing tough competition. Playing in pairs on the sand brings a different dynamic compared to indoor volleyball, emphasizing communication, endurance and teamwork. Senior Sophia Nielsen talks about her experience, stating, “Playing both beach and indoor has shown me both sides of the sport, and I have loved getting to play with my partner, Amelia Breckenridge, especially because it’s my last ever season.” With experienced players returning and new athletes stepping into key roles, the team hopes to build strong chemistry.
The softball team at NDB competes against strong schools in the Bay Area and works hard each season to improve and represent NDB with pride. Players train throughout the season, focusing on skills such as hitting, pitching and fielding. Softball at NDB also plays an important role in building leadership and confidence among student-athletes. Practices and games help players learn discipline, communication and perseverance. According to sophomore Stella Hird, “This team has been so welcoming from the beginning, and I have grown so much as a player and a person alongside my teammates.” Being part of the softball team creates lasting friendships and unforgettable memories.
Swimmers at NDB officially dove into their season in early February. Athletes have been practicing diligently ever since the start of the season, and it shows. Swimmers practice every day for two hours at NDB’s brother school, Serra HS. The swim team is led by two coaches, Wendy Connolly and Scott Ray and three senior captains: Gabby Goldfarb, Emma Kistler and Sophie Kistler. Freshman swimmer Charlotte Pottruck stated, “I play a bunch of sports, but getting to swim as a freshman and getting to learn from all the older girls has been so much fun. I have been learning a lot and am so excited to swim in meets this spring.” As the season progresses, the Tigers hope their hard work in practice will translate into strong performances and memories in the water.
Speed, strength and endurance are all on display as the track and field team begins its spring season. Athletes compete across a wide range of events, including sprints, distance races, jumps and throws. Track meets bring together athletes with different strengths, creating a team environment where every performance contributes to the overall success of the team. Training sessions focus on building stamina and refining technique to help athletes perform at their best on meet day. Whether running in the track or competing in the field events, Tigers are working hard to achieve personal bests. With several meets still ahead, the team looks forward to continued improvement and strong finishes throughout the season.
