In August of 2025, the Freshman Panthers enthusiastically greeted their first year of high school. Upon meeting one another, some reunited with old companions, while others branched out to form new friend groups. As the year progresses and nears its end, it is safe to say that the Panthers have grown closer in unity and spirit.
Throughout the school year’s many events, the freshmen have had many opportunities to get to know one another better.
The sense of connection was especially evident at Winter Formal, where students were able to relax and enjoy time together outside of the classroom.
“Winter Formal, everyone was just having a good time,” said freshman Scarelett Hughes.
Similarly, Homecoming highlighted the class’s growing support for one another, as students came together to celebrate.
Freshman Ma’ata Heimuli added that she loved how much everyone supported each other, “hyping one another at HOCO.”
Additionally, one of the most profound ways they felt the Panthers have formed a deeper, stronger understanding of one another is through the fall’s culture fair. By talking to people and being genuinely intrigued by others’ ethnicities, the Panthers have moved beyond a superficial connection.
The freshman also lead NDB with the highest class spirit points. At school rallies, like ones at the start of the school year or during Halloween, it is clear that they have lots of energy and joy, and are not afraid to let it be heard. As they come together for an exciting Aquacades, the Panthers will rock the music out of the house!
As a more recent note, Wellness Wednesday on March 11 was an excellent opportunity for the freshmen to simply enjoy each other’s company. Students rotated around playing board games and movie watching, singing their hearts out in karaoke, getting spa masks and dancing with sparkling zeal in a silent disco.
Although freshman year may not be as intense as sophomore, junior and senior years, it marks a very significant change in a person’s life. When thrown into a brand-new community, it is normal to feel scared and alone when meeting and interacting with people outside our usual comfort zone. However, the freshmen have barely made their way through the trials and tribulations of high school, and they are already growing and thriving as a community, together. We will soon see how they mature and foster camaraderie amongst one another in the coming years.
