The annual Catfight to Knock Out Cancer basketball game was held on Thursday, February 5, in the Moore Pavilion to support efforts to “knock out” cancer in people’s lives. This is NDB’s second athletic event to raise awareness for cancer, following the Dig Pink volleyball game in October.
NDB’s JV and Varsity basketball teams played Menlo HS, where JV came close but lost 46-23, and Varsity won 38-28. These games were held to support cancer research, with donations collected and all proceeds given to cancer initiatives. This was a really special event held at NDB that allowed the overall message of knocking out cancer to spread throughout the halls and the community.
Varsity senior basketball player Lizzie Johnson mentions, “It was a great game. I am so proud of my team for pulling through and giving their all to fight for a good cause. We have played this school before and won, but it’s always a close game, so I am super happy that we were able to compete at this level…overall, it was a great way to play my last knockout cancer game at NDB, and I am thankful for all the support from the community.”

Beyond the action on the court, the event served as a reminder of the impact a school community can make when it comes together for a cause. NDB students showed their support by attending the game, donating, and spreading awareness throughout campus in the days leading up to the event. Staffulty and families also participated, helping turn the Catfight to Knock Out Cancer game into more than just a basketball game, but a call for change.
By combining school spirit with a meaningful mission, NDB continued its tradition of using athletics as a platform to support those affected by cancer and to contribute to the fight against it.
