InterSession: a week-long period where students stay connected to campus in an unorthodox way. During this time, students can choose from an array of courses led by staffulty, including a variety of activities. From traveling for college visits to scrapbooking, students can de-stress while also forming connections with peers across grade levels and teachers in different departments. This week allows students to venture out and explore things they might not have tried without InterSession.
This unique tradition is one of the things that makes NDB so special, as it encourages students to connect with the Hallmarks outside of the classroom. InterSession is a prime example of the school’s commitment to enhancing community and its dedication to encouraging self-exploration. It allows NDB to be more than simply a place to learn, but a place to belong.
InterSession also benefits students and staffulty’s mental health, because by stepping away from typical academic classes and the stresses that come with it, burnout is prevented during the tiring winter months. Activities focused on creativity, movement, such as hiking or even cooking, allow students to learn things outside of the standard curriculum and in an interactive way.
“I think that it’s a nice opportunity to kind of connect with other people and also teachers in general. I think it’s nice that Notre Dame offers it, because . . . you get to learn maybe a new skill, or indulge in new hobby, or just like spend time with your friends or something. It’s nice that they offer that, and then also that you have the opportunity to go on a trip,” shared senior Ari Salerno.
InterSession serves as an important reminder that learning does not always happen in a classroom, and that taking time to explore interests and build relationships is extremely valuable to personal growth.
