As spring sports season approaches, student-athletes have registered for their chosen sports and begun preparing for upcoming tryouts, scheduled to start in early February. NDB’s spring sport options include track and field, lacrosse, swimming, softball, and beach volleyball. Many spring sport athletes shared what they are excited for and how they prepare as the season is around the corner.
Lily Jensen-Pelletier, a sophomore, is trying out for her second year on the beach volleyball team. As tryouts approach, she sets some goals for herself during the upcoming season, “I hope to improve on my blocking and swinging, but in general I just want to touch up on my beach skills,” she said. In addition, she is also looking forward to receiving her partner assignment, but noted, “sometimes partners switch depending on the opponent you are going to play, and who you work the best with, so your initial partner might not be your partner during the whole season.” Jensen-Pelletier also shared that she has been preparing by practicing through club volleyball practices and through court time on the NDB sand courts.
Stella Hird is planning on trying out for her second year of softball. “I am looking forward to meeting the new players that will be joining this year, and am excited to start the new season!” said Hird. To prepare for this upcoming season, she consistently goes to the batting cages in her free time. “I also attend my club softball practices and games, which also helps me prepare for the school season,” she added. Hird emphasized that she enjoys the team atmosphere of school softball, saying, “I like playing with the different age groups because it’s different compared to club, and the connections we make are really special!”
Kiersten Tang is going to participate in her second year on NDB’s swim team, competing in a variety of events such as the 200 free, 100 free, 100 breast, and 50 free in meets, as well as IM or freestyle relays with other team members. Tang explains how she is excited for this upcoming season, stating, “I am looking forward to meeting new swimmers and being able to swim with my teammates, and I’m ready for a new season!” She also adds, “I really want to improve my times this season and contribute to the team in every way I can.”
With tryouts quickly approaching, NDB student-athletes are looking forward to another competitive and energetic spring sports season.
