As NDB’s soccer tryouts concluded earlier this November, both the varsity and junior varsity teams are getting prepared for their upcoming preseason games, which started on November 24, against Wilcox High School.
As both the varsity and JV teams had their first scrimmage against Burlingame High School on November 20th, and the varsity alumni game took place on November 26th.
For their first pregame scrimmage, the game was shaped into three forty-minute halves due to player unavailability. Instead of two normal 80-minute games, it was split into three 40-minute halves, where varsity started, a varsity/JV blend followed, and JV concluded. They also participated in a penalty shootout. The varsity scrimmage ended with a tie 0-0, the varsity/JV mix ended with a loss, and the JV game ended with a loss as well.
Both teams have been practicing by doing activation drills, scrimmages, and other helpful activities that help players get into shape and prepare for their games.
Varsity assistant coach Luis Sanchez and JV head coach Will Evans both shared how they are preparing the 2 teams, both separately and together, during their daily practices.
Sophomore and JV soccer player, Tessa Henry shares how she feels about this upcoming season, “I am excited for this season, because we have a fair mix of returning players and new players on out JV team, and I think that we already have some good chemistry from the practices so far, and I am looking forward to playing games with them, strengthening our team chemistry and our friendship off the field as well.”
Both varsity and JV teams are very excited for their upcoming season and are kicking off the season right!
