On Tuesday, November 18, NDB’s annual PowderPuff game commenced. The teams that faced off were the Vipers and Panthers vs. the Sharks and Jaguars.
As the sister classes both played a good game, the senior sharks and sophomore jaguars came out with the win by 14 points, against the freshman and juniors in a 7-21 point game.
PowderPuff is an enjoyable event for the NDB community. Although not many students participate in the actual playing due to being winter sport athletes or simply not wanting to play, everyone takes part in cheering both teams on.
The shark/jaguar team was led by coach David Gillreath, director of advancement at NDB, and assistant coaches senior Autumn Deetz-Rodriguez and sophomore Penny McCarty.
Additionally, they are joined by the players. The team consisted of the sophomores Rayya Bazlamit, Maddie Dang, Olivia Eck, Riley McGlynn, and seniors Jeanne Dubuc, Sofia Castricone, Natalie Hurley, Kiera Kennon, Haley Troung Van Nga, and Katie Moorhead.
McCarty stated that the role of assistant coach mainly consisted of her helping the main coach, David, run drills and during practices. She also stated that during the few practices, they mostly did things like “preparing, doing drills, and making sure everyone knows each other.”
Sophomore and player Olivia Eck said that she was feeling “very prepared and ready for the game. The teams seem like pretty even components, and I am excited to see how the game goes.”
“This is my second year playing in the PowderPuff game. I also played last year, and it was super fun. I am glad we won this game because it just helps show how our sister class works so well together”, said Eck.
Referees Wendy Connolly, Paul Lapke, Sarah Boragno, and Allan Gargaritano showed fun as well as fair spirit during this game. They helped the game conclude with little to no injuries and a smooth game.
Overall, the 2025 PowderPuff game resulted in the senior sharks and sophomore jaguars taking the win, after a close and competitive match.
