On Thursday, November 13, NDB welcomed prospective students and families for Notre Dame Night, an evening created to showcase the school’s community, programs and spirit.
This event serves as a mini-open house, giving families the chance to explore campus in a more intimate setting. There is a three-part tour, with student speakers in the Small Gym, the Innovation Lab as well as an open session in the Dining Room where families can visit different department tables, ask questions and learn more about the school.
Preparation for the event begins well in advance. The Ambassador Club completes much of the setup, and Director of Admissions Debbie Anderson meets with all student speakers to review their presentations and ensure that each area flows well. Because so many students participate, the event is almost entirely student-led and reflects a wide range of perspectives. This event is a great opportunity for individuals to learn more about NDB, particularly because of the diverse group of students, with many having different interests, experiences and coming from various grade levels.
“I’d say, like the diversity in students this year . . . [W]e see a lot of different . . . personalities across the board,” said Charlotte Wicks, who assisted with the Visual and Performing Arts Department, when asked what stands out to her about the event.
Since Notre Dame Night takes place in the evening, the atmosphere feels different from the daytime events. It is warmer and more reflective, allowing families the chance to observe and listen rather than moving quickly to various places. Junior Caroline Zerella, who helped with the Spiritual Life Department, states, “I think [NDB Night] helps [people] just to see . . . what different classes are like, what programs are available, and . . . to see the special things that NDB has compared to other schools.”
Notre Dame Night gave prospective families a meaningful look into the school, the students and the community that they may end up joining. By the end of the night, visitors were able to walk away with a clearer understanding of what makes NDB so special.
