The excitement of NDB’s Dingbat rally

On Friday, October 31st, NDB had its annual Dingbat rally to celebrate Halloween. Here’s a recap of all the spirited, spooky activities that happened during the rally.

For the freshman class and new Staffulty this was their first time attending the dingbat rally. First-year NDB math teacher, Galen Coleman, shared “[The past rallies have] been fun, and I gain a lot of energy from the students. It’s been fun to watch that”.

The rally started with thrilling entrances from the Panthers, Jaguars and Vipers. Then, the Sharks made a wild entrance, along with a dance and skit from ASB. Following that, the NDB spirit squad gave an amazing performance, with the theme of Disney’s 2018 film Zombies.

Three competitive games were held for the classes to participate in and get a chance to win spirit points. The first game was Candy Snatch, where competitors had to chase each other and snatch candy attached to their shirts. The finalists of that game, the freshmen and seniors, then went on to compete in a wig snatch. In the end, the freshmen came out on top.

For many students, this is one of many memorable events they look forward to during the school year. “I think [the best part is] the music in the fun games, and also hanging out with my friends and seeing everyone’s cool costumes,” said Junior Sofia Shamieh.

Next, two students from each class participated in a relay race. The race start

ed with one partner wrapping the other with toilet paper. Then, when given the “okay” from ASB, the mummy would hold a bucket, and the other person would attempt to throw seven candies in the bucket. The first team to finish was the seniors.

After the rally, students reflected on how their class did and the enjoyable time. “[The best part of the rally was] how spirited our class was and how fun the games were,” said Freshman Elizabeth Kurland.

The third and final game was Just Dance. Two students from every grade showcased their moves for the Staffulty judges. In round one, students danced to “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr., an iconic Halloween anthem. Then, the two teams to advance to the next round were the Panthers and the Vipers, who danced to “Timber” by Pitbull

ft. Kesha. The freshmen Panthers took the win, once again.

For the Sharks, it was their last Dingbat Rally. Senior Kiera Kennon shared her favorite part of this year’s rally. “[The best part was] the Just Dance because it was so fun to see my classmates and peers dancing.”

The event ended with the Powder Puff game team reveals. The Seniors and Jaguars will be coached by David Gilreath, the director of advancements. The Vipers and Panthers will be coached by Laura Gill, the athletic director.

The Dingbat rally is a spectacular way to head into Halloween each year, but this year’s participation and lively spirit truly raised the bar.
