On Thursday, October 9th, NDB’s cross country team will depart for their annual elevation training in Lake Tahoe. In 2022, Coach Tom McGlynn first took the team to Tahoe, and since then, they’ve made it an annual trip.
“There’s a number of physiological benefits from going to altitude, so we thought we’d take advantage of the fall break so that the kids could get some more miles and get all the benefits of training at higher elevation,” said cross country head coach Thomas McGlynn
This training in Tahoe gives the girls an opportunity to train at a higher elevation, see new running trails, and build a closer bond with each other. Each year, they do events such as runs along the lake, at ski slopes, and around Tahoe.
Whether it is the girls’ first time going to Tahoe, or they have gone in previous years, all the athletes look forward to the time they get to spend with their team.
“I’m excited, but I’m also nervous. I feel like it’ll be fun to bond with my teammates,” said Junior Sophia Madrigal, who will be attending elevation training for the first time.
Elevation training is a huge opportunity for the cross-country team to grow as a team and build up their running skills and abilities. Along with an improvement in skills, the team builds bonds with each other at this one-of-a-kind experience.
