This month, Tri-School Productions has begun its rehearsals for the upcoming spring play, “Footloose”. Students from NDB, Serra, and Mercy are coming together to prepare for this musical, which is scheduled to be performed this March. The tri-school musical brings students from all three campuses together to collaborate on choreography, blocking, dance, and chorus for the show.
Sophomore Sofi Gupta is participating in the production as a member of the adult ensemble, one of the two ensemble groups featured in the show. Gupta explains how rehearsals have been demanding so far, as well as exciting. The cast follows a structured weekly schedule: “Vocal rehearsals are held on Mondays and Wednesdays, and dance rehearsals are usually on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.”
Rehearsal times vary depending on the week and based on each performer’s roles, but Gupta explains how she usually rehearses for approximately ten hours per week. With this big-time commitment and having to leave or arrive early from classes due to tri-school, students must learn to manage responsibilities. According to Gupta, the most challenging aspect of being involved in the production is balancing the rehearsal schedule with schoolwork and other extracurricular activities. Despite the busy schedule, she feels that the experience is worth the effort.
For her, one of the highlights of participating in Tri-School Productions is the opportunity to meet new people and collaborate with people across schools. Gupta shares, “I love getting to work with students from Serra and Mercy because it allows us to create relationships with people I wouldn’t have been able to meet without tri-school.”
As rehearsals continue, students continue to work hard to prepare for opening night. Tri-School Productions looks forward to showcasing the dedication and talent of its performers in this year’s spring musical. Gupta expressed excitement about being able to eventually share the finished production with audiences after all of their hard work. “I think that students should come see the musical in the spring because not only is this musical fun and entertaining, but it is a fantastic way that tri-school showcases their community and unity!” Gupta added.
