It’s official! The Sharks, Class of 2026, are in their last semester of high school ever. Wow, does time fly. They have achieved what their freshmen selves didn’t think would come anytime soon. Seriously, wasn’t it just yesterday that we were freshmen walking into the halls of NDB and looking for our classes, not knowing where anything was?
With this being the Sharks’ last semester, certain privileges will be granted to them. For example, as the school year comes to a close, seniors will be able to leave after their 7th block on B-days, meaning they don’t have to stay for Homeroom or Block Ei8ht. Additionally, around this same time, seniors will get free dress not only on Fridays, but every day of the school week! These are special little privileges that make graduation seem that much closer.
With these privileges also come some inevitable lasts for the Sharks. These include their last prom, senior sunset, and last day of high school ever.
“I want to make sure that we have events that are well planned out, and that everyone’s going to want to go to, including prom and senior sunset, which we’re working on right now,” said senior class council member Sofia Castricone.
Castricone is also in charge of running and designing the posts on the NDB’s class of 2026 Instagram decisions page. This is a special page designed to showcase to the rest of the 2026 class and other classes where all the seniors are going to college.
“It’s definitely interesting being the first person to see where each person is going and getting to make something they can post to show others where they are going,” said Castricone.
Now, with this being the Sharks’ last semester of high school, it means that they will all be in college soon. The “real stuff” will start sooner than we know. Like getting a job, living without their parents, and so much more. While it can be seen as a scary new reality, it is an exciting part of life that will come soon for the Sharks, as it exposes them to independence and new communities.
“I am excited about college, and I feel like Notre Dame has prepared me well, but I am going to miss everyone and seeing all these people every day, but I’m also excited for what is yet to come,” said ASB president and senior Olivia McGlynn. “I’m grateful for the time I’ve had here…we are second-semester seniors this year, so I really want to enjoy these last few months.”
Some Sharks are staying close to home for college. This means that they can stay close to their family while still experiencing the independence that college ultimately brings.
“My family and I are really close, so it’s definitely going to be an adjustment, but I’m not going super far for college, so it’s going to be nice to be able to get to see them once in a while,” said senior and future Santa Clara Bronco Alex Davidow.
Overall, the Sharks’ last semester of high school will bring many smiles and many tears, but it is so secret that these last few months for the seniors will be some that they will never forget!
