NDB Varsity Cross Country team poses together after a hard race.

As winter is fast approaching, the fall sports seasons all come to an end. The NDB Varsity and JV Cross Country teams competed in the first West Bay Athletic League (WBAL) meet to further their ongoing season.

Taking place on October 5 at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course, the teams pushed through the heat, both placing sixth overall. This put the team at a high advantage and placement when hopefully qualifying for CCS as the season progresses.

Varsity team member, Sophomore Andie Wong, reflected on her first WBAL meet.

“I was really looking forward to this meet and was pretty nervous. When I got there, it was really hot,” explained sophomore Andie Wong. “But the team did well considering the weather, and how that was affecting a lot of the runners.”

Despite the late afternoon heat at the course, the coaches were proud of the team’s hard work and determination.

“They worked well together and let each other into a great finish on varsity and a great finish on JV,” shared coach Will Evans.

In preparation for the upcoming races, the team will continue their rigorous training, practicing six days a week and working out in the weight room with Coach Kate. Staying healthy is a primary focus of the team, as it ensures that everyone is in good condition to succeed.

“We’re focusing on staying healthy, getting all our little injuries out of the way. And we are working on improving our heart team running and our overall fitness and placings,” Evans added.

The teams next league meet, which takes place on October 20, will be held at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. The NDB Tigers are working hard to place even higher at this next race and those to come.
