Oh, the places you can still go during a global pandemic

During a global pandemic, it is important to take care of your health and limit your contact with people outside of your family, but this does not mean you have to stay inside 24/7. It is extremely important to go outside every once and a while, and there are a couple of ways you can do it.

If you have an animal, specifically a dog, take them on walks. Your dog needs exercise too and it is a great way to get Vitamin D. Taking a walk through your neighborhood or visiting a local park will be most beneficial just to get out of the house and keep yourself active.

Going on a drive around your area is another way to get out of isolation. Driving down Highway 1 to see all of the beautiful views can bust your happiness and keep you motivated. With this, there are also several fast-food drive-thrus that are open. These limit the amount of human contact but still supports businesses that could possibly be struggling.

Although everyone is told to stay away from people that are not direct family members, there are still ways friends are able to stay connected during this scary time. You can do a zoom call with up to 100 different people. This would be a great way to still stay in contact from afar so you can still maintain those significant relationships.

When talking with NDB senior Danni Ellman, she says there are plenty of things to do during a global pandemic. She says you can go to the beach, on a drive, or check out different biking paths around the Bay Area. These will help you to stay active as well as get out to see wonderful views so close to home.

The grocery store is still open where you can get your foods and essentials for staying at home. When talking to NDB sophomore Katie Spencer, she said she had to wait in line to get into the grocery store. “They had everyone lined up outside (6 feet apart) and only let a few people in at a time,” said Spencer.

When it comes to human contact especially at places such as grocery stores or pharmacies, it is crucial to take care of your health whenever you step foot outside. Always make sure that you are not touching your face (especially your nose and mouth) because that is how the coronavirus can be spread easiest. Make sure you are washing your hands and applying hand sanitizer as well to keep your hands clean at best.

Stay active and know that you do not have to reside in your home all day, but please be cautious no matter what you do.
