The West Bay Athletic League (WBAL) Track and Field Finals took place on Friday, May 6 after runners and jumpers qualified that Tuesday during the WBAL Preliminary meet.

On Friday, NDB runners competed in 11 events, including two hurdle races and two relays.
Track coaches and sibling duo Ron and Shamara Douglas finished their first track season at NDB successfully, with athletes in two events moving on from the Finals to the Central Coast Section (CCS) Championships. The 17 NDB athletes running in Finals worked hard throughout the season, and the dedication they showed paid off in this last meet.

The 4×400 team, made up of sophomores Cailin Thompson, Amber Holloway, Megan Worry and junior Cassidy Morris advanced to CCS, a meet that took place on Saturday, May 14 in Gilroy. In CCS, the relay team placed 13 with a time of four minutes and 22.16 seconds.

High jumpers Melanie Castelli and Emma Nilstoft came in first and second at finals and both competed in CCS as well. Castelli participated in the high jump CCS event on Saturday, May 21 at the same location in Gilroy.

Thompson also put on an impressive performance at Finals, placing third in the 100 meter dash and fourth in the 200. Her time in the 100 was a personal record. As Thompson is still only a sophomore, it is likely that her impressive personal records in the 100, 200 and 400 will only improve, and score her a spot in an individual race in the years to come.

Junior Desea Bond had a successful meet at finals in her events, long jump and triple jump. She placed fifth and fourth in those respectively.

Finals also served as the official senior meet. The seniors participating were recognized and each given a flower before the races began.

The team has their banquet on May 24, where the coaches and athletes will celebrate their spring season of accomplishments and say goodbye to the six seniors.
