The Catalyst / Emma Callicott

Home of an NDB student’s family during the holiday season.

NDB student that is staying in the Bay area during winter break:

The Catalyst (TC): Do you have any plans while you are here?
Claire Felton (CF): I think my mom’s family is coming over during Christmas, so we are just going to hang out with them.

TC: How are you going to spend your winter break?
CF: I am probably just going to spend it eating food, and like opening presents and watching football.

TC: Do you have any winter traditions?
CF: We usually play, like this game called white elephant, where you get to pick a present from a pile and people try to trade and take presents from other people. So it’s really fun.

TC: What is your favorite part of the holidays?
CF: My favorite part is probably, like, eating all the food that is popular during the winter time, especially berry pie.

NDB student that is going to Tahoe during winter break:

The Catalyst (TC): Do you usually spend time at Tahoe over the winter break?
Niharika Nair (NN): Yes, I usually go to Tahoe many weekends throughout the winter season.

TC: What are you planning on doing?
NN: I go to Tahoe to ski and snowboard with my brother, as well as just hanging around with my family.

TC: Do you have any winter traditions?
NN: Going to Tahoe is actually a winter tradition for me since I go every year. Other winter traditions I have are going to Christmas and new years parties but this year I will be out of the country on Christmas day.

TC: What is your favorite part of the holidays?
NN: My favorite part of the holidays is just the overall feeling it gives you, including the time off from school, family time, and the parties. I also like the cold weather.

NDB student that is traveling outside of the state during winter break:

The Catalyst (TC): Where are you going?
Chloe Parkinson (CP): I am going to New Mexico.

TC: Visiting people/family or just going for fun?
CP: I am going to visit my mom’s side of the family.

TC: What are you planning on doing?
CP: I am planning on spending the holidays together with extended family I haven’t seen for a while, so I am looking forward to going.

TC: Do you have any winter traditions?
CP: Usually we host family over the winter but this year we are going to them because my grandfather had knee surgery, so it is better just to go to him.
