Home Alone

Each year, I watch Home Alone. It is one of those holiday movies that is considered a classic. It takes place in a small town and focuses around a big family, the McCallister’s. As Christmas approaches, the family plans to go on a vacation in France. Come the morning of the departure, all but one person makes it onto the plane. Kevin McCallister, at 8 years old, realizes his family left without him. He experiences what life is like without his huge family around to bug him. However, there’s a reason children are not left home alone for long periods of time: safety. With his newfound freedom, Kevin must be the man of the house, including responsibilities such as grocery shopping, decorating, and making sure the house is safe. Home Alone is hands down my favorite Christmas movie.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Derived from the children’s book writer Dr. Seuss, the cartoon story comes to life on screen. Every year, the residents of Whoville go all out when decorating for Christmas. Everything about the town is jolly, except for one person: the Grinch. He lives up on an isolated hill just outside of the town with his dog Max. The Grinch is known for his lack of holiday spirit and as a result, is shunned upon. A little girl named Cindy Lou Who takes it upon herself to include the Grinch in the holiday tidings. At a crossroad between his plan to ruin Christmas for the whole town and rejoicing with the town because of his new friend Cindy Lou, the Grinch has to choose what is more important to him.

The Santa Clause

With Christmas approaching every year, there are two types of people: believers and non-believers. Here, father and son embark on a journey that forces realist Scott Calvin to believe not only in his son Charlie, but also in the magic of Christmas. Being as Scott accidentally kills Santa, he puts on Santa’s suit as a joke, however is roped into an agreement that he is the new Santa. He and Charlie deliver presents and explore the North Pole and all of its wonders. If you are looking to watch a family movie, The Santa Clause is a perfect pick.

Elf

Growing up at the North Pole with elves as friends and family left Buddy the elf isolated from the real world. Buddy never quite fit in at his home due to his size since he is a tall human while the others are short elves. He decides to venture out into New York City in order to find his real dad. Unaccustomed to the metropolis way of life, he learns a bunch of new things as well as teaching others new things. Buddy serves as the embodiment of Christmas spirit, therefore he assumes everyone believes in Santa Clause. The trouble is, his father is not a believer. Elf is a hilarious holiday movie sure to make you laugh.
