Favorite Candies

Halloween is synonymous with candy, but with a variety of flavors, textures, and colorful packaging, which ones will be most popular this year? Some argue that chocolate candies are the way to go, with their rich taste and variety of mix-ins like caramel, nuts, or mint. The options within plain chocolate are also endless, with different types of white chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate.

The Catalyst interviewed several NDB students for their opinion on the perfect Halloween candy. Annica Kim, 2021, says, “Milk chocolate, is not too bitter and not too sweet, it is the perfect middle ground of chocolate”.

Others prefer hard candies, like lollipops and candy canes. Sophomore Mia Soracco’s favorite type of candy are dum dums, as she enjoys the variety of flavors in one package. Dum dums provide a ton of fan favorite flavors, such as blue raspberry, cotton candy, rootbeer, and many more tasteful flavors all in one bag.

Lastly, and arguably the most controversial are gummy and chewy candies. Some people think they are oddly sticky and a pain to eat, while others find that their elasticity and dense texture make for a unique experience. Sophomore Isabella Ailanjian’s favorite candy is watermelon sour patch kids, because they are not too sour and have just the right amount of sweetness. Isabella loves to eat chewy candy filled with tons of sugar that results in her being full of energy.

Whether you like chocolate candy, hard candies, or gummies, there are plenty to choose from and enjoy this Halloween.
