Women’s History Month: Beyoncé
Women’s History Month is a time to commemorate and highlight the contributions women have made to society and the way in which the world could not revolve without them.
Time and time again Beyoncé has been given the recognition she deserves, and still continues to be the best embodiment for divine femininity. As one of the greatest female artists, influencers, and feminists in history, Beyoncé has more than contributed to many aspects of the women’s rights movement. She has produced music unlike any other, which gives women an outlet and sense of understanding as well as confidence.
In the month of admiration for womanhood, what better way to celebrate than to listen to songs like “Pretty Hurts,” which highlights the social standards that make and break woman from the outside in, “Run the World,” which demonstrates the most powerful feministic ideology, and “Formation,” which praises the woman and calls them to rise up together.
During highschool, Amaya Gray, a star player for the women’s soccer team at the University of California Berkeley, was featured standing proud alongside her twin sister on Beyoncé’s website.
“Being featured on her website was an honor and such a great accomplishment because I have looked up to Beyoncé for many years and her music is so healing and empowering,” said Gray.“Beyoncé is an inspiring role model in the Black community because she is a beautiful, classy, pro-Black, successful and talented proud Black woman. She integrates her love for being Black in her music and encourages us all within the Black community to be proud of our Blackness.”
The idea of women claiming their bodies, sexuality, independence, and freedom was popularized in pop culture by Beyoncé’s fierce energy and pride. In the early 2000’s she was the first to produce songs about love and sex from a woman’s perspective in such a bold way that many other female artists still felt was taboo, and in doing so she has inspired several new waves of feminism.
One of the most special parts about this star is her acknowledgement of normal life. Fans watched her cultivate marriage, motherhood, fame, and activism starting from nothing. Her humility gives inspiration to many women because if Beyoncé could do it, so could they. If she could balance all the craziness of life on top of being a world-renowned artist, then anything is possible for them to achieve as well.
