Red Ribbon Week
From October 26th to the 30th, NDB’s Health and Wellness Board hosted a Red Ribbon Week in conjunction with the national week for drug awareness. The upperclassmen and underclassmen both were given the opportunity to listen to a presentation on drug awareness given by Student Resources Officer, Officer Ed Berry. Following the presentation, Officer Berry held a Q&A for the students so that they could have a safe space to ask any questions and receive resources and answers. Officer Ed Berry presented facts and statistics on commonly used drugs by high schoolers, and provided resources for those who may need extra help. While this presentation was directed to students to create an open environment, the parents will be given the chance to attend a similar meeting in the near future.
Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized drug awareness campaign, and it is America’s longest-running and largest drug awareness prevention program. On the program’s website, their stated mission is “to help keep kids drug-free,” and they have been following this since 1985. The program also hosts Red Ribbon Fridays, and in recognition, NDB has decided to designate Friday, October 30 as a day where all students and faculty are encouraged to wear red to spread awareness.
The Red Ribbon campaign has helped so many communities promote drug-free environments for children and provides excellent resources to those who need it. NDB is partaking in this nationally acclaimed week to open its arms to the community and work together to create a diverse and safe environment through education on the subject.
