The Catalyst (TC): What do you think about the announcement to continue online Distance Learning until December?

Steve Sanguinetti (SS): I believe it’s probably the right solution, so that the educators and administrators can put together a focus plan so that when the time comes that we can have everybody back in proper classes, like the way that we did prior to the pandemic. That would be the best solution.

(TC): How has your daughter staying at home affected your home and work life?

(SS): Oh, absolutely zero, because, you know, we understand the schedules and the classes and breaks, and the timing of everything. And in fact, since the actual serious sheltering in place was a mandate many months ago, we’ve all gotten used to that. So, not only have the students (my daughters) been in that situation of remote learning, but so have adults, parents and such. And also first responders, firemen and police. We’ve all been in that situation.

(TC): How do you feel about paying tuition for online school?

(SS): Oh, I have no problem with that. In fact, I think it’s not something that I’ve really thought much about because I think the idea, and the cost value of proper education, is still there so I’ve never even considered it. The only thing that I did, which I’ll toss in there, was the added activities and lunches and other meals that come with that particular tuition. But I think that Notre Dame has really handled it in a proper way. And they just recently came out with a program where we could actually be reimbursed for [parts of the tuition], but I would rather just  just donate it to the general fund, so I think it’s fine with me.
