Since many schools have closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, many high school students are going to school online in what is called distance learning. Some of them communicate with their teachers via email or websites, like gClassroom and Schoology. Others participate in online classrooms via video conferencing apps, like Google Hangouts and Zoom. The Catalyst interviewed Thomas McCoy, a sophomore at Saint Francis High School, about his experiences going to school online.
The Catalyst (TC): What is a typical day of school like for you?
Thomas McCoy (TM): I wake up around 7:30 am, shower, and get ready for the day. I usually start working around 9:30-10:00 a.m. until lunch.
TC: How are you coping with social distancing and keeping in touch with your friends?
TM: The social distancing is strange, and I only go outside to work out or do chores.
TC: How do you feel about your school year ending like this?
TM: I feel bad for the upperclassmen who have to deal with their school year ending like this. For me, it’s not too bad because I’m a sophomore. So, I’m just trying to get used to learning online.
