Christmas Spirit Week
For the first time ever there will be a Christmas Spirit Week. The NDB community has always embraced the Halloween spirit week, so ASB thought something fun before finals would be a great stress reliever, and Associate Head of School Carolyn Hutchins agreed.
The first day, Monday, December 10 and is called “Ugly Sweater Day”. By doing this, any holiday celebrated can be represented, as long as you wear an ugly sweater. This is a day where creativity can shine bright and people can freely express themselves. Senior Avani Tumuluri says, “I am most excited for “Ugly Sweater Day” because I really wanna see all the ugly sweaters some people make some really funny ones.” This is the perfect day to put people in the right, joyful mentality for the week.
Tuesday the community will be in a variation of Mr. Claus, Mrs. Claus and elves running around campus. I think it will be interesting to see the ratio of which characters people choose to dress as. I feel like people can really get creative on the classic looks.
Wednesday is “Christmas Pajama Day”, probably the most comfortable way to spend a cold winter day. Junior, Carina Leveroni, says, “I am so excited for the Christmas spirit week, especially “Christmas Pajama Day” because I can show holiday spirit while being comfortable.” This day is a great way to set a calm, relaxing atmosphere going into finals the following week.
Thursday, the final day, is “Family Christmas Card” which will be absolutely hysterical. It is so hard to get a good family photo with everyone smiling, but at least on this day looking silly will be perfect. Walking the campus, there will be a variety of young children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Sophomore Shea Hanson, says, “My favorite day in October was Saturdays for the boys because seeing girls dressed like dudes was really funny. On Christmas card day, there will be a variety of boys and girls all different ages, it will be so funny.” So the question is: which family will take the best Christmas card photo?
It is clear everyone in the Notre Dame community is really excited for the last week before finals. The excitement is clearly due to Christmas spirit week! Since finals are such a stressful time, ASB’s goal is to try and add some fun for the Holiday season.
Leveroni says, “being able to celebrate it [Christmas] at school really adds more spirit during this time that is usually focused on finals.” I think we can all agree that it’s is so nice to be able to enjoy the holidays before finals, especially with some of the people closest to you.
Tumuluri says, “The thing I love most about the new spirit week is it is all Christmas themed because I feel like, as a school, we are actually just celebrating the feeling of it and I just love everything about Christmas so I am really hyped.”
Christmas Spirit week could not come at a better time and I am excited to share my holiday joy with those around me.
