Tis the season for college applications

The Common Application website is very familiar to high school seniors.

Now that senior year is under way for the Titans, it’s time to start preparing for college application season. The Common Application and UC application were released on August 1, giving students time to begin working before school was officially in session.

Summer break was best utilized by those who wanted to get a head start on writing college essays. NDB College Counselor Dina Cunha offered her annual workshop on college essays during two different sessions in June, a program popular amongst the rising seniors. Others who preferred a more individualized route had the chance to work on their own or with a private college counselor.

Now that Early Decision and Early Action deadlines are coming up in November or even as early as October, college application season is in full force.

But be warned: completing college applications is no simple task. Many students struggle to find the perfect balance between writing personal statements, supplementals, and all things college application-related with an already full plate of school work, standardized testing, and extracurriculars.

Although the countless essay drafts and questions about “Who you are” and “What your goals for the future are” may seem never-ending, this entire process is fleeting and ends with the ultimate achievement of finding a home for the next four years.

As stressful as this time for seniors may be, faculty and staff of NDB are here to help. Teachers are not only sources of recommendation letters, but also a resource for help drafting essays, feedback on supplementals, and a helping hand for those who need someone to talk to.
