Welcome to spirit week day number one, where the sophomores and seniors traveled to the Wild West, and the freshmen and juniors went to the West Coast. The student body and staffulty dressed in a mix of western flannel and beach sunglasses.
ASB member Finley Wilke-Hiland dressed in a mix of cowboy boots and a bathing suit, representing both options for the day. ASB is behind the Halloween spirit week and takes time to plan out different themes, ensuring NDB has various opportunities to dress up and have fun.
“We thought this [Wild West vs. West Coast] was a unique idea,” said Wilke-Hiland. “We haven’t done it before, and we thought we would get a lot of participation because it’s not too hard to do, and we thought it would be fun.”
ASB planned this day for the sister classes to “compete.” Seniors and sophomores were assigned Wild West, and the juniors and freshmen were assigned West Coast. This idea, created by ASB, allowed the NDB halls to be filled with both flannels and leis.
“I’m dressed as a West Coast girl with the lei and the sunglasses,” said junior Sammy Kakala. “I was going [for] like beachy vibes, like West Coast.”
Science teacher Paul Lapke is known for his extravagant spirit outfits and looks forward to the rest of the week.
“Yeah…I feel like there was a standard set last year by accident…. I guess [my] inspiration [for today] would be like old Western shows,” said Lapke.
As NDB continues to celebrate the spooky season, students are encouraged to dress up and enjoy the week. Be on the lookout for Tuesday’s dress as your type day, Wednesday’s Babies vs. Boomers, Thursday’s Dead Meme day, and of course, Friday’s Halloween!
