For many student athletes, sports mean competition to them, but for cross country athlete Olivia McGlynn, it is about commitment, growth, and connection.
As she wraps up her final year, Olivia reflects on how running has disciplined her shape and focus. Whether it’s early morning practices or long Saturday meets, her dedication has set a positive example for high school runners.
“I did track through middle school, and my family is big into running, so I decided to try it out both for that aspect and because I enjoy the team aspect of cross country,” said McGlynn.
Looking back on her years with the team, Olivia says her proudest moment was seeing how much the group has evolved. “My proudest moment has been how close our team has gotten this year and how much it has grown since last year. We are twice the size now, but have formed a very close bond.” She said on a personal level, she’s especially proud of qualifying for CCS individually last year.
During her season, Olivia is running with a clear goal in mind. “As it is my final season, I really want to leave with my best effort forward and set both personal records, but also work with my team to qualify for CCS this year.”
Outside of training, Olivia keeps her post-race tradition simple. “My favorite post-race snack is by far a pink drink from Starbucks with a ham and Swiss croissant and a blue Gatorade.”
Overall, Olivia has left a lasting impact on NDB’s cross-country program, not just through her speed and achievements but through her leadership and dedication to her team. Olivia’s journey serves as a reminder that sports are not only about speed and achievements, but rather the commitment and the heart put into every race.
