Every year in October, NDB holds its Dig Pink volleyball game to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This game includes all three of NDB’s volleyball teams: freshmen, JV, and varsity, to take on Sacred Heart Prep. Students and faculty attending the game were decked out in pink gear to show their support for breast cancer awareness. Dig Pink is more than just a game; it is a community event that brings students together to raise awareness for an important cause.

NDB not only cares about raising awareness for breast cancer but also wants to bring together a community of students and fans.
“I think Dig Pink, from what I understand, is a great event for the entire community to come together. And I think not only is it the community coming together, but it’s the community coming together for a great cause. And so I’m super excited for the event, and I’m glad that it is such a big tradition here at NDB,” shares Athletics Director Laura Gill.
School spirit is the most important thing about bringing a game to life. When students come together to support an important cause, it shows how much they care about the game and the awareness. Bake and t-shirt sales take place during the week of Dig Pink, and proceeds are donated to breast cancer awareness. Not only do the students go all out for Dig Pink, but the NDB Spirit Team also participates with fun cheers, stunts, dances, and school spirit to show their pride for the school and the event.
Having a spirit team is one of the most important factors of having a spirited student body. This team shows the bond and importance of a sisterhood, emphasizing the uniqueness of NDB.

Spirit Director Lea Santini shares, “Spirit brings the spirit. For the Dig Pink, I think they also help get the crowd going and keeping everything super exciting, and keeping everyone loud and proud and really supporting the important cause.”
Each year, over 270,00 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, which is one of the most common cancers. This type gives a 90% survival rate, which is pretty high, but this cancer could still be deadly and could cause lifelong effects. So many women each day have to fight against breast cancer, and it is an important cause to discuss in schools. NDB’s Dig Pink motto for this year is “Fight the Fight,” making a statement for those struggling with breast cancer to stay strong and win their battles.
Tuesday’s Dig Pink matches were filled with energy and teamwork, as the Tigers faced the Gators. Despite strong efforts, JV lost 1-2, and varsity fell 1-3, but the freshmen finished on a high note, winning 2-0.
This is not the end of the road for the Tigers. There are many more games to come with more spirit events like Senior Night and CCS playoffs. At the end of the day, it was what was brought to the game that made it so special.
