Caroline Cammarata ‘29: “Breast cancer is a cancer that has run in my family for a long time. My grandma just recovered from it, and it was something that I … didn’t know could be so serious. So, I think it’s really good that Notre Dame is raising awareness about it. So, when I hear breast cancer awareness, I immediately think to Dig Pink. I think it’s such an amazing … thing that they have because it’s … a topic that no one really talks about, but it’s just as serious as other cancers.”

Reese Bohnert ‘28: “My aunt has cancer, and she is going through it for her second time … It’s been a struggle and a process, but her family members and the community around her has encouraged her to get through it and to persevere. I think that this month is very important because it’s very important for people who are going through it [and] because we need to support them through this.”

Ashley Turek ‘27: “When I hear [about] breast cancer awareness, I hear making people educated about breast cancer and raising awareness about the effects it can have and how we can even do little things to help every day. It’s important because I feel like everybody should be aware of it and learn a little about it, even if and especially if they have someone they know, like, a family member [or] a friend that has breast cancer.”

Lizzie Johnson ‘26: “My mom just recently overcame breast cancer. So, it’s a really heartfelt topic to me … All I would say is … get your mammograms when you can because you never know what could be shown. I think that [breast cancer awareness] shows a lot of support for women in general, but it’s important because it just shows that we support each other … having girls supporting girls and boys supporting girls – It’s really an important part of a community, and it just shows that we care for each other.”
