The Dig Pink season is here, and this annual event recognizes breast cancer awareness. Going to an all-girls school makes this all the more special. Of course, Dig Pink centers around the big volleyball game, where the frosh, JV and varsity volleyball teams play in support of breast cancer awareness. Along with the game comes the spirit of the game and the other festivities of the days prior, which are all handled by the Dig Pink Club.
The Dig Pink Club, run by senior presidents Gabby Goldfarb and Maia Meja-Young, is a club that prepares NDB for the big game. One part of the Dig Pink Club that is very important is the bake sales and t-shirt sales on the days before the game. All these proceeds, thanks to the NDB community, are given to breast cancer awareness.
“There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into it. There’s a lot of preparation, clean-up, t-shirt designing [and] bake sale organization,” said President Goldfarb. “There’s an organization that all the proceeds that we make from all the t-shirt sales and bake sales go to, and we’ve been donating to that one group for the four years that I’ve been here.”
Additionally, the Dig Pink Club organizes the stand at the actual game, where NDB students can not only go to support their friends, but also check in to gain spirit points. The club helps decorate and clean the gym after the game has concluded, and helps the night run smoothly.
“As one of the Dig Pink presidents, we’re responsible for all the behind-the-scenes work that goes on for Dig Pink, which includes the bake sale, selling shirts, and promoting the event,” said President Meja-Young. “The club is to raise money for breast cancer awareness, and this is just such an important issue, especially at an all-girls school where breast cancer is a prominent issue within the female population.”
Overall, the Dig Pink Club has a lot of important responsibilities to make sure this annual, and very important event goes according to plan.
