As MLB ended the season, 12 teams entered the playoffs/postseason, which started on Tuesday, September 30th. In the playoffs, 6 teams come from the American League, and the other 6 are from the National League, as they all face off against one another to win the World Series.
The teams that originally entered included the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, and Cleveland Guardians.
Many students and staff at NDB support the local Bay Area teams like the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics. Unfortunately, neither were able to make this year’s postseason. There are many high hopes that things will change next season!
Freshman Charlotte Pottruck stated that because her team, the Giants, is not a part of this year’s postseason, “[I want the] Dodgers to win, even though I know it is an unpopular opinion.” She also states that she really doesn’t want the Milwaukee Brewers to win, as they are facing off against the Dodgers.
During October 2 through the 4th, the wild card games were played. From the American League, the Guardians faced off against the Tigers, with the Tigers coming out with the win 2-1, and the Yankees and Red Sox battled, with the Yankees ending up winning 2-1 as well. From the National League, the Dodgers beat the Reds 2-0, and the Cubs beat the Padres 2-0.
With these games concluding, the Division Series began from October 6th to the 11th. In the American League, the Blue Jays beat the Yankees in the series 3-1, and the Mariners beat the Tigers 3-2. In the National League, the Dodgers destroyed the Phillies 3-1, and the Brewers beat the Cubs 3-2.
And starting on October 13, the American League Champion Series (ALCS) and the National League Champion Series (NLCS) came to a start with the Toronto Blue Jays facing the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS and the Los Angeles Dodgers battling the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS.
As of October 16th, in the NLCS, the Los Angeles Dodgers secured the win against the Milwaukee Brewers, beating them in the series 4-0, sending them to the World Series. In the ALCS, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners in the series 4-3, sending them to the World Series to face the Dodgers. The question is, who will receive the Commissioner’s Trophy and the World Series Rings for 2025?
