As Halloween approaches, NDB’s annual spooky spirit week begins, allowing students to dress up in costumes and participate in festive activities. Starting on Monday, October 27 and ending on Friday, October 31, this week encourages students to be creative and explore different outfits.
Put on your boots or flip flops because Monday is “West Coast versus Wild West Day,” where freshmen and juniors are the former and seniors and sophomores are the latter. To embody the Wild West, Tigers can transform into a cowgirl, wearing a cowboy hat, a flannel shirt, a pair of jeans and a pair of cowboy boots. Apparel to show off the West Coast vibe can include Hawaiian shirts, shorts, swimwear, sandals or slides. During Monday’s lunch, students can participate in a pumpkin-decorating contest, with the winners earning spirit points for their class.
Tuesday marks “Dress as your Type Day.” Students can wear sports jerseys or go a different route and wear beanies, hats, hoodies, jeans or even boots. Tigers can also show off their baking skills by participating in a baking contest in which their goodies can be submitted to one of three categories: most creative, spookiest and tastiest.
Wednesday is “Babies versus Boomers Day,” with upperclassmen as boomers and underclassmen as babies. Freshmen and sophomores can wear onesies, bring pacifiers and stuffed animals to represent babies. Juniors and seniors can transform into Boomers with wigs, glasses, sweaters and even coffee mugs. There will also be a candy guessing game with three different jars to guess from, with the winners receiving the jar.
For a day filled with nostalgia, Thursday is “Rest in Peace Day,” bringing back old memes, such as VSCO girls, skater girls, dead superstars and tie dye. A baggy shirt or jeans and accessories are a great way to go back in time.
Friday officially marks Halloween and the end of spirit week. Students can show up in an array of costumes and DIY outfits. For example, a simple black dress can be transformed into a witch costume, adding a hat, makeup, black gloves and maybe even some black boots. Other easy costume options include pop culture characters like Barbie, Taylor Swift or Tate McRae.
Spirit week will conclude with the annual Ding Bat Rally, a beloved tradition that brings the classes together to celebrate Halloween and pump up school spirit.
ASB members work diligently to plan this week, making sure everyone has a chance to show off their costumes.
“All of it happens during our meetings during lunch,” shared ASB Spirit Coordinator, Isabella Michael. “It is lot of conceptualizing and planning. Just thinking of ideas that we feel everybody would have fun doing, but also aren’t too hard to do. We really just want it to be as fun for as many people as possible.”
Halloween spirit week will continue to be a highlight of the semester, and an outlet for the community to come together to celebrate the spooky season, so make sure to dress up and get those points!
