This year at NDB, collaboration has been renamed to “Block Ei8ht.” This was established so that students can participate in fun activities instead of just doing homework for the entirety of Collaboration. There will be games in the Moore for people to play, group study spaces in the dining room and lots more to come. When checking into certain stations at this time, students will have to scan their ID card so they can be tracked on campus. Will NDB students like this change, or will they have other thoughts on it?
Some people may ask, “Why is NDB adding this now?”, or “Will this new “Block Ei8ht” be beneficial?”
“I love it. I think it provides flexibility, collaboration and student choice!” said world language teacher G Imazumi-Hegarty.
This is the first year that NDB has brought in this new addition to the schedule. “Block Ei8ht” can either carry a positive effect on students or a negative effect. In the previous school year, during collaboration, students would often wander around campus, which made them hard to locate by teachers.
No student is forced to do an activity during the new block. They can also use their time to meet with teachers and classmates to discuss upcoming tests and classwork. With the new addition of “Block Ei8ht”, teachers know where students are, whether they just wanted to study for a hard test or have a little brain break.
NDB hopes for a positive change from students in how they use their time efficiently. Students can benefit from this time and have a more organized collaboration period.
