Coming to a new school can be intimidating. It is hard enough just to be a freshman in an unfamiliar high school environment. On top of that, it is even more difficult for a student to put themselves out there to get involved with the school and do things like run for class council. But this group of seven girls did!
Freshman from the class of 2029, Arsema Aron, was elected as the Panthers’ class president. She shares what she hopes to bring to her fellow Panthers.
“I hope to bring lots of communication, and I want to bring joy. I was to help people to remember freshman year for the rest of their lives,” Aron says.
The new Vice President, Minnie Evans, says what she is most looking forward to in her new position. “I’m looking forward to helping with any roles the vice presidents has me do, and really changing the school spirit,” says Evans.
Another Panther, Mayenna Navarro, won the position of Secretary/Treasurer. Navarro shares what kind of emotions she felt during the election. “I was a little nervous when I was giving my speech, but I just took deep breaths. And when I found out that I won, I was really excited!” she says.
Riley Cohen was elected as the Panthers’ Activities Director. She shares what she is most looking forward to getting involved in at Notre Dame. “I’m definitely most looking forward to getting involved with the dances, like the setup and all that type of stuff. I’m so excited!” Cohen states.
The position of Athletics Director for the freshman class council was won by Molly Hipps. “I hope that I’m able to encourage everyone to attend sports events and kind of bring up the spirit at games, and basically just get the class engaged in everything we’re doing. I was to make sure that they have the opportunity to come out and support,” Hipps said, when asked what she hopes to bring to the Panthers.
The new freshman Spirit Director, Olivia Santos, shares why she ran. “My reasoning for running for this position was because the first spirit rally was just so electric, and I loved the energy of it all. I just wanted to be the one to build community in our freshmen class through spirit.” Santos states.
Lastly, the freshmen class elected Nicole Dimitropoulos as their Historian. She expresses her reasoning for running for this position. “I think that capturing the memories of the freshmen class is really important, because we have a lot of firsts this year. I want everyone to be able to look back on and remember our time as freshmen really well,” says Dimitropoulos.
Notre Dame offers lots of ways for students to get involved. This is a main reason why the NDB community is such a special one. Whether students are running for class council or signing up and participating in a club they feel passionate about, there are many opportunities to embrace the sisterhood. No matter how big or small, every involvement makes a difference.
