Sports in the United States are more than just a series of games; they are American culture and pride. Thousands of people come together to watch their favorite sports, and millions more watch them on their home screens. Sports provide endless opportunities for people to celebrate, connect and really feel a sense of patriotism.
There is always a sport for everyone to enjoy, whether they are watching the game itself or socializing with friends. Football games are a popular way for fans to come together, meet people and express their patriotism, all while enjoying a game.
“…[It] makes people feel patriotic and something that’s so special to America. People are just so excited to go every Sunday and … turn on their TV to see football. It’s a huge … community, and there’s something for everybody in sports …,” said senior Rebecca Welte.
Many sporting events contain a display of patriotism, often through the U.S. national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” Singing this song shows pride in the country and deep respect for the people who continue to defend it.
At its core, sports can create a sense of community across generations and connect individuals through shared experiences.
“… I think sports can bring unity and connect people in many ways, whether it be the relationships you form with teammates, coaches, people who come to see your games, etc. They help grow you as a person …,” said senior Cat Dorf.
Sports bring people together to share a common love, creating one big community and making it a reflection of America’s culture. The United States takes pride in the sports offered by its people, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and unity that sports bring.
