Tri-School “Sense & Sensibility” cast
This fall, Serra, Notre Dame, and Mercy’s tri-school theater confirms cast list for upcoming play Sense and Sensibility.
NDB sophomore Annaliese Shalton plays a lead role as Marianne Dashwood. Another NDB sophomore and junior, Lucie Nash and Hillary Tighe, play Mrs. Jennings and Mrs. Ferrars.
Per NDB senior Hillary Tighe, “the play is based on the novel by Jane Austen. It is set in the late 1700s and focuses on two sisters: one who is reserved and the other very outgoing, and their relationships. I play one of the gossips. It is difficult to describe what that means but basically we are a reminder of the social pressure of that era- no one is ever alone because we’re always watching and listening and talking about other people.”
In a nutshell, 3 sisters Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret Dashwood and their mother Mrs. Dashwood cope with not only the loss of their father, but also the loss of a comfortable lifestyle. Additionally, attention is geared towards difference between the two eldest sisters Elinor and Marianne’s perspective on life: one sister representing “good sense” while the other represents sensibility.
