TC: What brought you to NDB?
TP: A lot of things, but I think the major thing that brought me here was the smaller community that’s actually a community. A lot of schools might say they have a community, but no one’s really looking out for each other and supporting each other and really cheerleading each other on [like at NDB.] And, as I’m a woman in STEM, I really want to empower more women in STEM…being at a school that really focuses on just educating women is a big mission of mine.
TC: What is one thing you want your students to know about you right away?
TP: I am shy, but I do want to get to know you.
TC: What is your philosophy and style of teaching, especially being at an all-girls school?
TP: My goal is to reach students to make sure that they know that they’re valuable, that they’re cared for, that they’re loved, and that they can learn what they want to learn. Everyone learns at a different pace and in a different way, but as long as we look out for each other, we’re stronger together.
TC: Is there anything you’re especially looking forward to during your first year at NDB?
TP: Aquacades. Definitely…I hope [to be in the teacher’s routine].
