Newsies, the spring musical, had its last show on Saturday, April 5. With many dance numbers and singing, this show was a hit and was a very impressive feat.
Tri-school productions, which include NDB, Mercy, and Serra, have been working together for years to produce plays and musicals, and with this production being the last one of the year, seniors look back on their time with tri-school productions.
“It’s definitely bittersweet,” said senior Adi Joshi on parting ways with Tri-School Productions. “I’m really excited to see what people do in the years to come, and I’m really happy for my time there.”
The musical and also the movie made in 1992, starring the famous actor Christian Bale, are loosely based on the newspaper strike of 1899. The musical puts the audience in the time and sets the scene for the “newsies” to strike against Joseph Pulitzer’s rise in newspaper prices.
“Just being on stage again,” said junior Isabella Michael, about what her favorite part of participating in Newsies was.
The last tri-school production of the year, Newsies, was filled with excitement and emotion, with all the actors on stage playing their part in a way to draw the audience in and make it an overall exciting musical to watch. Additionally, with this play being a long process to prepare for, the cast was able to connect and find fun moments together.
“It felt like a second family to me,” said Joshi. “Everybody’s really nice to each other and everybody wants each other to be the best version of themselves.”
Overall, the musical Newsies was a thrilling and exciting experience, and it was a production that certainly wasn’t missed out on, as each night the theatre was able to either almost sell out or tickets would be gone completely.
