As the end of the school year approaches, spring sports, including the NDB Track and Field team, are finishing up their seasons. Track and Field had an amazing spring season, with athletes excelling and a brand new coach pushing his team to new horizons.
Track and Field is a classic high school and college-level sport, encompassing events like running, jumping, and throwing events.
“I do the 100m, 200m, 4×1, and long jump. The 4×1 is my favorite because I like working with my teammates, and its an exciting event” explained junior athlete Jeanne Dubuc. “I tried a new event this season which was long jump, it was also very fun.”
Paul Lapke just recently became the new Track and Field coach for NDB earlier in the 2025 school year, also stepping up to become a chemistry teacher. With being on his college track team and coaching other high school athletes earlier in his career, Lapke’s expertise showed through during this spring season.
“I think the team has put in a lot of hard work over the season and I’m excited about the possibility of what we can do at league championships.” described Lapke. “[For next season] I’m excited to just see how we can build from this year…Hopefully if we wrap up the season how we like which I think we potentially have the ability to do, then we will generate success… ”
“I do 100m, 4×1, long jump, sometimes 200m, and I just started pole vaulting,” shared sophomore athlete Lauren Beret. “I like 4×1 because it’s a team effort, and I like pole vaulting because it’s something new to try, and I enjoy doing it.”
This year’s Track and Field season was a great success for all athletes, whether it be accomplishing team growth or beating personal records. It looks like next season is sure to be a huge hit for the team as well.
