Aquacades is an annual NDB tradition that fuels the school’s community, leadership and spirit. Along with this yearly rally comes many other NDB traditions, always including a creative and unique spirit week.
The 2024-2025 year spirit week included many themes that had not yet been used by prior classes, and ASB worked very hard to come up with exciting games and activities taking place each day to further the feeling of fun and festivities.
“[Spirit Week] is a really fun opportunity to compete as a class, and its fun getting dressed up outside of our uniforms,” described Junior Anna Fox.
On Monday, April 7th, the school week started with a bang with a sister-class theme: bikers vs. surfers. Freshmen and Juniors donned leather and bandanas, while the Sophomores and Seniors stuck to sunglasses and Hawaiian print. These sister-class themes are always a hit, promoting sisterhood and community within the grades. Along with the outfits, ASB provided a candy-guessing game, which was won by Sophomore Cadence Goblirsch.
Tuesday was decked out denim day and students filled the hallways with jeans, jean jackets, jean skirts, and even jean accessories. This theme was unique and individual, allowing students to express themselves through various kinds of denim. ASB also hid rubber ducks all around campus, leading a wild duck hunt. Any lucky duck-finder could turn in their finds for a prize.
Wednesday’s theme brought out the creative side of every student: dress up as the letter of your first name. This theme is a high school classic and fan favorite, often being repeated throughout other spirit weeks. Students dressed as a character or thing that started with the same letter as their first name, sparking laughs and imagination. And, a piñata was hung up in the Father Downey Garden during lunch for all classes to enjoy.
“I dressed up as a crayon,” shared Senior Claire Odderstedt. “I was a blue crayon, because I needed something that started with the letter C…I had a blue shirt and blue pants and I printed a label that said crayon.”
Throwback Thursday took everyone by surprise, as students dressed up in their favorite 2020 era trends. VSCO Girls and Hype House boys were popular outfits, letting everyone feel the nostalgia from their past. Additionally, a Polaroid station was set up for student use.
Friday finally arrived after much anticipation. Following Aquacade tradition, each grade dressed up in their individual class colors. Tutus, jerseys, face paint, and more created a sea of rainbows in every classroom. There was also a rock-paper-scissors necklace competition, with Senior winner Nicole Tobar taking home a Crumbl Cookie gift card.
After a long but exciting week, Aquacades had finally arrived and students brought all of their energy and school spirit to the event. Aquacades’ spirit week is the perfect way to harbor sisterhood and community, while hyping everybody up for the biggest rally of the year—Aquacades!
