April 11 marked the date of the most highly anticipated event of the year at NDB: Aquacades. Known for its vibrant displays of school spirit and dance routines, it is more than just a rally, it is a celebration of creativity and collaboration.
Few realize the extensive work behind the event, which the Associated Student Body (ASB) and Director of Student Life and Leadership Alisia Bergholm began planning as early as November.
After announcing the “SZNCades” theme along with its four subcategories in January, the six student leaders organized a 10-minute routine, crafted a massive backdrop and coordinated tasks with participants.
Activities Director Nina Wall shared her experience.
“Our key thing of developing a successful SZNcades was definitely teamwork, without a doubt. Every activity, video, painting and dance move involved all of us as a team,” shared Wall.
Athletics Director Hailey Kockos shares a similar perspective, stating the importance of delegating tasks.
“I would advise the upcoming ASB to start planning as early as possible and ensure that each person has specific roles within planning,” she said.
Even selecting the spirit days and activities takes thoughtful planning and weeks of preparation.
“Each day, we put on an activity to go along with the dress-up day. It was a great way for students to earn extra spirit points and participate in a fun activity outside of the school day,” said Wall.
In the end, Aquacades is more than dancing and cheering, and ASB made this year’s one for the books.
